Food Not Bombs næsta laugardag 27.11, í fínu fötunum.

Síðustu vikur hefur Food Not Bombs gengið upp á allan hátt. Margir hafa blandað sér eldunarhópinn til að skera grænmeti og elda, spila tónlist og kíkja í bókasafnið í leiðinni.

Flestu fólki finnst hugsunin bakvið Food Not Bombs heillandi og styðja við hana eftir sínu höfði.

Þó kom fram gagnrýni síðasta laugardag – þar sem einn aðili vildi meina að þetta að fólk væri gefandi mat á einu af aðaltorgum borgarinnar eyðilegði ímynd hennar vegna útlits síns og hegðunar.

Allt þetta skrautlega klædda fólk sem hlær og spjallar, borðar og dansar? Það líkist ekki fólki eins og það er flest og hegðar sér ekki heldur eins og til er ætlast – það gerir eins og því finnst vera rétt og því líður vel með. Það er líklega rétt að þetta eigi ekki við þá ímynd sem Reykjavíkurborg vill markaðssetja.

Næsta laugardag, 27. Nóvember, vill hópur fólks gera sér mat úr þessari gagnrýni með því að fara í búninga. Þá sömu búninga og sumir klæðast á hverjum degi og gera að hluta af eigin sjálfi. Allir þátttakendur FNB eru beðnir að leita uppi fínustu eða mest uppdressuðu föt sem þau geta komist yfir, drattast loksins í sturtu og greiða sér. Látið loksins eftir ykkur að vera í jakkafötum eða óperukjól á háum hælum eða lakkskóm með skart og meik. Kæmi ekki skemmtilega út að sjá þannig klætt fólk gefa fólki frían mat á götunni?

Food not Bombs the last couple of weeks has been great. A lot of people choppin’n’cookin’, a lot of people showing up for food, great music and books to come with the veggies.

Most people find the concept behind Food not Bombs appealing and support it in the way they like to.

There has been criticism on the last Food not Bombs though – a commentator arguing that the people handing out food for free on one of the main squares would destroy the image of the city with their looks and behavior.

Those colorful people, munching food, laughing, playing with dogs, chatting and dancing? They don’t look alike and they don’t behave in a way they are told to behave – they do what they think is right and what feels good. Indeed, this does not fit into the image of Reykjavik that sells so well.

Next Saturday, November 27, a group of people wants to parody the mentioned criticism by putting on costumes. The ones some people wear every day, making them part of their identity. Everybody is asked to find the cleanest and neatest or poshest-looking clothes in the wardrobe/cardboard box/backpack, put them on, finally take a shower and comb back that crusty hair. Go totally wild, put on a suit, or a sakko, or high heels, jewelry and make-up. How about a bunch of posh looking people serving food for free in the streets?
